HIV/AIDS in Idaho

Through December 2005, a cumulative total of 959 HIV/AIDS cases were reported (390 HIV cases and 569 AIDS cases). Whites account for the vast majority of cases in Idaho (85%), although the rate of individuals presumed living is highest in Blacks/African Americans. During 2001-2005, males were diagnosed with HIV/AIDS at a higher rate each year than females. In fact, MSM continues to be the most reported mode of exposure and the only one to show an increasing trend (according to the 2006 Idaho HIV/AIDS Epidemiologic Profile). Health District Number 4 (which includes Boise, Idaho’s capital and largest city), has reported the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in the state (44%).

2006 epidemiological data is now available: 2006 Idaho HIV/AIDS Epidemiologic Profile [3.4M PDF*]. For more information, please contact the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare (http://www.healthandwelfare.idaho.gov).
