The library is stocked with a variety
of books on topics within medical history
and ethics. Our collections are open to the public for browsing and research; however, books may
not be
checked out. It is highly recommended that visitors call ahead to check availability since access to the collections is limited. For

| Motulsky, Professor of GenomeSciences, University of Washington, donated a large collection of his books to the Medical History and Ethics Department. The collection’s focus is primarily genetic and has its own section in the departmental library, known as the Motulsky Collection. |

About Dr. Arno G. Motulsky
Arno Motulsky, UW professor emeritus of medicine and of genome sciences, is a pioneer in human and medical genetics. The UW Division of Medical Genetics was one of the first of its kind in the world when founded in 1957. Motulsky led the division for more than 30 years.
Dr. Motulsky was also a founder of the field of Pharmacogenetics--the role of genetic variation in response to drugs. Dr. Motulsky has received many honors including election |
| to the National Academy of Science (NAS), the Institute of Medicine of the NAS, the American Association of Arts and Sciences,and the American Philosophical Society. In addition to his scientific activities, Dr. Motulsky has long been interested in the social impact of human genetics (including genetic testing) and has participated in various national committees dealing with these issues. |
