Data on Alcohol, Seatbelts and Airbags Added to FARS

The National Highway Safety Administration's Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) contains data on all vehicle crashes in the U.S. that occur on a public roadway and involve a fatality. The FARS Query System provides interactive public access to fatality data through a web interface.

FARS now includes multiply imputed versions of data on several variables, including alcohol, seatbelts and airbags, through the efforts of Peter Cummings, M.D, M.P.H., of the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center. Cummings is also a University of Washington professor of epidemiology.

The new data are available for the years 1982-2001. The following links provide access to more information on the new extensions to FARS, as well as access to the data:
