Welcome, Alumni & Friends of the Department of Anthropology!

We would like to extend a hand of friendship to those who have been a part of our community for so many years. With the help of over 3,000 Alumni & Friends of the department, anthropology does indeed make a world of difference! We hope to reciprocate your generous gifts of friendship and support through a series of outreach projects.

This year our faculty and graduate students hosted our annual spring outreach event at the University of Washington on Thursday, April 24, 2008 from 6-8:30 pm at the UW Waterfront Activities Center. The theme for this year's event was "Tales from the Field." As always, this was an exciting, stimulating and enjoyable occasion, reconnecting with alumni, friends, and colleagues living or visiting in the Puget Sound area. Unfortunatley, photos are not available for this event, however, click here to see photos from prior events.

For those who are unable to attend this event, our seasonal newsletter AnthropoLog is filled with interesting stories about alumni, faculty, staff, students, classes, and research.

We are very grateful for the financial support we receive from our alumni, faculty, staff, parents, friends, and foundations. By offering your support, you can help to provide scholarships for our students or increase the department's general fund, which assists with activities such as fieldwork and laboratory equipment. Please visit Your Contributions at Work on our website for more examples of how your donations can enhance the UW Anthropology experience.

Please consider making a contribution to our department. Each gift, no matter what its size, does make a difference! If you would like to discuss giving options in more detail, feel free to contact our Department Chair, Prof. Bettina Shell-Dunan, bsd@u.washington.edu, (206)543-5240, or Carolyn Black, Director of Development for Social Sciences, at cablack@u.washington.edu, (206) 685-3863.

But, most importantly, we want to hear from you! We want to know what you are doing and how the study of anthropology has affected your life. We encourage you to come back and visit us in Denny Hall and attend any of the events and seminars listed in the News & Events section of the website. We will be happy to give you a tour of our department. You will appreciate the extraordinary work of our students, the dedication of the faculty and staff, and the deep sense of community that has filled these hallways for so many years.
